The Palace of Justice in Brussels was created by architect Poelaert (who gave his name to the place /square on which it stands) at the behest of Leopold II.
The courthouse is a colossal building, nicknamed the Mammoth, the largest building built in the nineteenth century in Europe (bigger than San Pietro).
Opened in 1883, a symbol of the greatness of Brussels, ir mixes several architectural styles, from classical to neo-Gothic, with a porch and a high dome, and the statues of the facade evoking Justice. In front of the building two lifts get down to the district of Marolles. The city view from up there is wonderful, especially at sunset when the rays of the sun seem to lie on the roofs of houses.
