Ancient seat of the communal life, the Palazzo dei Priori is a Gothic style building, which represents the past and present of the city.
It was built between 1293 to 1443 andthe degrees and that's why it has an irregular and asymmetrical.
The oldest part of the building is one that faces the square, in front of the Fontana Maggiore. From this side on the stairs like a fan, there are the symbols of the city and that is the Grifo and the Lion.
In reality these are two copies, the originals are located in the Sala dei Notari. The statues made ​​of bronze probably belonged to a now vanished fountain, attributed to medieval sculptor Arnolfo di Cambio.
Also from this side you can see the pulpit, the place where municipal ordinances were read once. The facade that opens onto Corso Vannucci has a portal, richly decorated with allegorical scenes.
Inside, on the third floor of the building houses the National Gallery of Umbria and La Sala dei Notari the walls are painted biblical scenes and legendary. The chairs and stalls of the hall of 500.
In the Hall of the City Council is a work of Pinturicchio, Madonna between two angels.
