The Umbrian National Gallery contains a list of works ranging from the twelfth to the nineteenth century. It is the most important gallery in Umbria and significant for the history of art at the national level.
The collection is divided by historical periods in twenty-three rooms organized into seven historical periods.
The first four hundred and collect the works of trecento.Si part with a wooden crucifix of 1236, the most ancient, and then continue with the panels by Giovanni and Nicola Pisano.
Also in the first room there are five statues of Arnolfo di Cambio, a former pupil of Pisano's workshop.
In the other three rooms we find works of the late Gothic period. The Madonna and Child Enthroned find the fairy-tale atmosphere and poetic by Gentile da Fabriano.
Among the various rooms are examples of fabrics and Umbrian goldsmiths
Continuing, deserve much attention the works of two important artists of 1400, Perugino and Pinturicchio.
Perugino's works are some of the early period (Adoration of the Magi, Pieta, San Bernardino) and another of his mature years (Confraternity of Our Lady of Consolation, The Dead Christ, Pala Signorelli, and the Altarpiece of St. Augustine). Perugino was one of the most important artists of the time and joined the perspective view of Piero della Francesca, with the careful observation of reality and kindness stlistica typical Umbrian. Perugia was later the teacher of Raphael.
